One of our favorite things each year is celebrating some of the incredible educators in the Ogden School District! Each spring, the Foundation honors outstanding educators with the Telitha Lindquist Greiner Excellence in Teaching Award, based on nominations from colleagues, families, and community members who see their impact firsthand.

Throughout the year, we’ll be introducing you to each of our award recipients, starting with Heritage Elementary teacher Elizabeth Hooley! Here are just a few of the wonderful things we heard about Ms. Hooley:

-Elizabeth works hard for her students each and every day! She cares deeply for each one and wants to see them all succeed. My daughter grew so much in her class, not only academically but also personally.
-Ms. Hooley is a positive and energetic teacher. She is also a forever learner who constantly strives to learn more so she can bring that knowledge to her students. In addition, she is a supportive coworker who advocates for her peers.
-Elizabeth exemplifies excellence and embodies best practices in her teaching by encouraging her students to do more and take responsibility for their learning. She is such a caring and nurturing teacher and fosters a culture for learning!

A huge thank you to the Guild for Good Golf Invitational for selecting the Ogden School Foundation as one of the charities supported by Utah’s very first Guild Mortgage golf tournament! We were absolutely blown away by their generous donation and the incredible support behind it. Funds raised through the tournament will help create even more opportunities and support for our amazing Ogden students, and we are so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible. Special thanks to Jason Hassell for making the connection, and to all of the Guild Mortgage sponsors, supporters, golfers, and volunteers who came together for such a great cause. We’re lucky to have partners who believe so strongly in our schools and our students!

Ways to Help Wednesday! And this week we're talking about something with some real staying power.

Through our Legacy Society, you can support Ogden students for generations to come with a planned gift, including bequests in wills and trusts, insurance policies, and cash donations for endowment funds. You can even direct your gift to the school, program, or area of education that means the most to you.

Let your legacy become our future.

Our 2026 Raptors Night last Friday was a total home run! Thousands of Ogden students and families filled the stands to root, root, root for our home team (with foam fingers for the first 800 kids through the gates!). Students formed a human tunnel to welcome the players onto the field, players signed autographs, Ogden High student Kristen Munoz gave an amazing performance of the national anthem, and Superintendent Rasmussen shared an on-field message to kick off the school year. Huge thanks to the Ogden Raptors for helping us create such a memorable night at the ballpark. We already can't wait for next year!

It’s Ways to Help Wednesday! This week, we’re highlighting one of the many ways you can make a meaningful difference for Ogden students and families: support our Student Support Centers.

Located at Ben Lomond High, Ogden High, Ogden Technical High School, and Odyssey Elementary, these centers provide students and families experiencing housing insecurity with access to food, clothing, showers, laundry facilities, school supplies, technology, and connections to other community resources, all in a welcoming space designed to preserve dignity and help students succeed.

With an estimated 1 in 10 Ogden School District students experiencing homelessness each year, these resources matter. And there are lots of ways you can help! Donations of money and needed supplies help us keep our centers stocked and ready to support students and families when they need it most.

Learn more about our Student Support Centers, see current needs, and find ways to give at ogdenschoolfoundation.org/supportcenters.

We officially kicked off the new school year with our annual Ogden School Foundation board training today!

Foundation board members heard an in-depth State of the District from Superintendent Luke Rasmussen, learned more about Foundation programs, responsibilities, and priorities for the year ahead, and spent time connecting around the important work we’ll be doing together to support Ogden students and educators.

The Ogden School Foundation is governed by a dedicated volunteer board of business and community leaders who generously give their time, expertise, and support on behalf of our schools. We’re grateful for their commitment, energized by what’s ahead, and ready for another great year of working together for Ogden students!

Ways to Help Wednesday 💙

The new school year starts this week, and behind every first day are a whole lot of amazing people working hard to make it a great one for our students! So this week's way to help is simple: start the year with a little kindness. 💙

Send a quick note, email, or message to a teacher, administrator, secretary, paraeducator, custodian, bus driver, child nutrition staff member, or another school employee and let them know you appreciate what they do. A few kind words only take a minute, but they can mean a whole lot, especially during these busy first weeks of school.

Know an incredible school employee? Tag them in the comments and tell them why they're amazing! Let's start this school year by making sure the people who take care of our kids know we're cheering them on.

Ways to Help Wednesday 📚💙

Sometimes the simplest things make the biggest difference.

Spending just 20 minutes a day reading with a child helps build vocabulary, strengthens language skills, sparks imagination, and creates a lifelong love of learning. But maybe even more importantly, reading together strengthens relationships and teaches children that books aren't just about school, they're something to be enjoyed.

So pick up a book or two and settle in with a kiddo in your life this week. Those 20 minutes today just might help shape a lifetime of success.

Have you got a story to tell? We want to hear it!

As part of our 2026 Fall Author Event featuring award-winning author Ann Patchett, we're inviting all Ogden School District students entering grades 10-12 to participate in our annual Student Writing Contest!

This year's theme, "These Precious Days," challenges students to reflect on a disappointment, failure, or unexpected obstacle that changed the way they saw the world and helped shape the person they are becoming.

Ten winning writers will be recognized at our Fall Author Event in October, meet Ann Patchett personally, and receive a $100 prize.

We can't wait to read your stories!

Ways to Help Wednesday 💙

One of the greatest gifts you can give a child is a love of reading.
Research consistently shows that early literacy builds vocabulary, strengthens language skills, supports school readiness, and lays the foundation for lifelong learning. Just as importantly, reading together helps strengthen the bond between children and the adults who love them.

That's why we're so excited to be partnering with Operation Literacy to bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to every eligible child in Weber County. Through this incredible program, children from birth to age five receive a FREE, high-quality book in the mail every month, helping them build a home library one story at a time.

You can help make that possible! Every donation puts more books into the hands of young readers throughout Weber County.

➡️ Visit ogdenschoolfoundation.org/give
➡️ Select "Dolly Parton's Imagination Library" from the dropdown menu

Thank you for helping us inspire a lifelong love of reading and build brighter futures, one book at a time!

This week, we're looking for adult-sized backpacks to help ensure our secondary students have what they need for a successful start to the school year.

Many junior high and high school students need larger backpacks that can hold binders, laptops, and other school supplies. New, sturdy backpacks in neutral colors are especially appreciated.

Need ideas? Here are a couple of great examples:

If you'd like to donate, you can drop backpacks off at the Ogden School Foundation Office (1950 Monroe Blvd., Building 1) during normal business hours. Questions? Contact us at ogdenschoolfoundation@ogdensd.org or 801-737-7307.

Thank you for helping remove barriers and making sure every student is ready for a successful school year!

Howdy! The Ogden School Foundation and Weber School Foundation had so much fun last night joining our friends at Operation Literacy during the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo to put FREE books into the hands of kids. There is nothing quite like watching excited young readers pick out a book to take home and call their very own!

We know that having books at home helps build strong readers, sparks imagination, and creates a lifelong love of learning. That's why we're so excited to be teaming up with incredible community partners to bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to Weber County, helping even MORE young children build their own home libraries and supporting early literacy across our community.

We'll be sharing more information soon about how you can get involved, but in the meantime, if you'd like to help put more books into the hands of children in our community, you can make a donation here: https://www.ogdenpioneerdays.com/dolly-partons-imagination-library-donations/
